In Japan, just about
everything is a lengthy process, including setting up a bank account.
But, rather than
telling the time in a more conventional manner, for example, a clock, my visit
was marked in a different way.
Some banks in NZ have
music playing in the background – maybe the local radio station. Not my bank in Japan. My bank has chosen to play a selection of
Disney tunes, all played, slowly, by a synthesised glockenspiel orchestra.
So, imagine if you
will:
Entering the bank –
the final few bars of the Mickey Mouse Club theme song.
Waiting to be served –
Some Day My Prince Will Come + Do You Want To Be A Snowman?
Talking to teller –
Let It Go+ A Whole New World.
Waiting as she gets my brand new bank book (yes, you read that correctly.
A bank book. Not too dissimilar
to the one I had in 1987) - Beauty and the Beast + 3 more recognisable but
unidentifiable songs.
As I leave – Hi Ho, Hi
Ho, It’s Off To Work We Go.
